FAQs about the Salzburg Card

When I book my Salzburg Card online, can I use it immediately?

No. When you book online, you receive a voucher which you will then have to exchange for the actual card at one of our two tourist information centers in Salzburg, either on Mozart Square (at No. 5 Mozartplatz) or at the main station (No. 1 Südtirolerplatz). The voucher itself is valid as a one-time bus ticket from the airport or from Park & Ride car parks in the city.

Do I have to book/reserve the Salzburg Card online before I actually arrive in Salzburg?

No. You can obtain your personal Salzburg Card after you get here, at ticket offices, all tourist information offices in and around the city, at the airport, the main station etc.

Is the Salzburg Card valid for 1/2/3 calendar days or indeed for 24/48/72 hours?

The validity of your Salzburg Card begins with the first time it is used/registered: for example, from 2 p.m. until 1:59 p.m. of the next day.

Can Salzburg Cards also be registered in buses?

No. For a Salzburg Card to be valid as a bus ticket, the name, starting date/time must be entered on the back of the card. If a ticket inspector happens to ask for your ticket, just show him/her your filled-out Salzburg Card.

If the card expires while you are in a museum, do you have to leave the museum?

No. You are registered at the time you enter the museum.
Important: If you use the Untersbergbahn lift, the funicular at the fortress or the Mönchsberg Lift, the ride back down the mountain is registered separately: in other words, you must begin your ride down before the card has expired.

Can I use the Salzburg Card on two non-consecutive days?

No. The card is only valid for a continuous period of 24/48/72 hours.

How do I get discounts for concerts?

Please make reservations for concerts in advance, either by email or telephone (though not online), directly with the event organizer in question, letting them know that you possess a Salzburg Card.

Is there a group discount?

Groups of 20 or more people receive a discount of 10%. Discounted Salzburg Cards are only available upon arrival from the tourist information centers on Mozart Square or at Salzburg Main Station, or in advance with bill payment remitted by post.

What public transportation is included with the Salzburg Card?

Obus lines 1-14
Albus lines 20-28, 31, 34, 35 & 151
Postbus lines 130/140 as far as Eugendorf, the No. 180 to Grossgmain & 170 to Rif
Suburban rail line S1 to Acharting
WALSIE bus taxi

Do I also have to buy a card for my 5-year-old child?

In general, children under 6 enjoy free admission to museums in Salzburg, which means they don’t need their own Salzburg Card. Exceptions include “Bible World”, Haus der Natur, Palace Hellbrunn & Trick Fountains, river cruises, the Toy Museum and the zoo. For each of those attractions, children 4 and up are charged admission. So, decide which of them you plan to visit and whether it would be worthwhile to buy a Salzburg Card for children between ages 4 and 6.
